Josef Maier, PA-C, OT-C

Physician Assistant, Certified Orthopaedic Technologist

Mr. Maier, a Kansas native, graduated from Wichita State University with a bachelor’s degree in biology with a minor in chemistry.  After graduation, he began working as an orthopedic medical assistant for multiple orthopedic surgical groups in Wichita and Kansas City.  During that time he completed his national board examination to become a certified Orthopedic Technologist.  Shortly thereafter, he moved to New England where he completed the physician assistant program and received his Masters of Allied Health Sciences and Physician Assistant Studies degree from the University of New England in Portland Maine.

With his background as a certified orthopedic technologist and several years experience, Mr. Maier brings to this practice a well-founded knowledge of orthopedic medicine and diligence for patient advocacy.  As a physician assistant he is directly involved in patient care.  He assesses and diagnoses various orthopedic illnesses, orders and interprets laboratory tests, x-rays and MRI’s.  He prscribes medications, develops treatment plans and provides patient education.  He performs minor surgical procedures such as injections, aspirations and suturing.  He has extensive experience in casting and splinting applications.  He is involved in surgical care for pre-and post-operative patients as well as first assisting in various surgical procedures.

The physician-PA team relationship with Dr. Schwartz and Mr. Maier is fundamental to the PA profession and enhances the delivery of high quality healthcare to their patients.

He is certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) and the National Board for Certification of Orthopaedic Technologists (NBCOT). Currently he is an active member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA), California Academy of Physician Assistants (CAPA), Physician Assistants in Orthopedic Surgery (PAOS) and the National Association of Orthopedic Technologists (NAOT).

Mr. Maier is part of the Allied Health Professional Staff at ValleyCare Medical Center in Pleasanton and San Ramon Regional Medical Center and has privileges at Tri-Valley Outpatient Surgery Center and San Ramon Surgery Center.
